Its Warehouse Operations Agent briefs supervisors at the start of a shift, surfaces root causes, and recommends actions, while Robotics Hub and Resource Orchestration keep reinforcing Blue Yonder's position in mixed human-plus-robot environments.
- SAP EWM: SAP's story is still less flashy and more practical. Recent EWM releases added predictive labor demand planning, more Advanced Shipping and Receiving depth, and steady cloud-public-edition enhancements. For large SAP estates, that matters: EWM keeps getting better at staying inside the SAP stack rather than forcing buyers into a separate orchestration project.
- Deposco: Deposco arrived at ProMat 2025 with tangible WMS improvements instead of generic AI theater. Order Fulfillment Profiles, smarter Directed Putaway, and preconfigured integrations across ASRS, cobots, and AGVs all point to the same strategy: win flexible mid-market and upper-mid-market operators that want automation readiness without a two-year implementation.
- Extensiv: Extensiv is playing a different game, but it is worth tracking. Its 2025 3PL Warehouse Manager releases added practical workflow upgrades like item alias management and SmartScan serial-number handling. That is not headline-grabbing, but it is exactly the kind of operator-focused shipping cadence that keeps smaller 3PL and multiclient warehouses loyal.
The AI Angle
The AI shift in WMS is real, but narrower than the vendor decks suggest. The first wave is not autonomous warehouses. It is better decisions inside existing operations: dynamic slotting recommendations, labor forecasting, exception triage, and faster supervisor decision support. The second wave is orchestration. WMS is becoming the software layer that tells robots, pickers, putaway teams, and replenishment flows what to do next.
That matters in three places. First, slotting optimization is moving from quarterly engineering work to continuous adjustment as demand patterns change. Second, robotic integration is becoming vendor-agnostic and task-driven instead of point-to-point plumbing. - How hard is robotics integration in the real world? Ask for the list of prebuilt integrations, the handoff model between WMS and robots, and the timeline to onboard a second automation vendor.
- What does the cloud upgrade path really look like? Buyers should understand release cadence, customer-specific code limits, testing overhead, and whether upgrades create operational downtime.
- What is the site-by-site time to value? Not the enterprise program slide. The real question is how quickly one distribution center can go live, stabilize, and produce measurable labor or service gains.
